Families have been walking through the doors at Wallace Memorial UMC for generations to discover this is more than just a place of worship.  We are a church family serving a historic fishing community that has grown to include more and more young professionals both military and civilian.  Yet even with the progress, we remain a community true to our small town values.   Our size, actually, is one of our greatest advantages – we know one another and can act on great ideas without having to go through layers of decision makers.

Members of the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church, we are a close-knit community that prays together, works together, and celebrates together. We always seek to create opportunities to serve the needs of our greater community as well as the needs of each other.

Pastor Norman Tippens

Our pastor, Norman Tippens, is a published author and writes a quarterly column for the Daily Press newspaper. He is a graduate of Duke Divinity School, with a Master of Divinity degree.

As the pastor of Wallace Memorial for 10 years, Rev. Tippens has watched this small community grow in faith and in purpose. Together pastor and church have nurtured a mission that believes in unity, hospitality, and family values. Our ministries are as diverse as the needs of our church family.

We have a recording ministry that each week records our worship service. These CD recordings are then delivered to our shut-ins, enabling them to remain a vital part of our membership. We hope to also have services available online in the near future.

Our children’s programs rock!  We offer a nursery for newborns through the 3rd grade, Sunday school throughout the school year, and a growing vacation bible school program during the summer.

We have quarterly book club readings, monthly family suppers, and weekly worship and Bible studies.   We guess you could say there is something for everyone in our family. Please contact us for more information on any of the below events or call 757-851-8277.
